What is infertility?

Infertility is a medical term describing the inability of a couple to conceive after at least one year of sexual intercourse, without using any contraception.

There is female infertility – when a woman is not able to get pregnant, and male infertility – when a man is not able to impregnate a woman.

 What causes infertility?

Infertility is not related to a single cause, as a successful pregnancy to happen several conditions are to be met. The cause for infertility can be either in the woman, or in the man, but can also come from unexplained factors or a combination of factors.

Causes of female infertility

There are several common fertility problems in women, including:

  • Problems with ovulation
  • Endometriosis
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes.

Factors affecting both female and male fertility:

  • Age
  • Emotional factors – depression and stress
  • Professional and environmental risks – high temperatures, chemicals, pesticides, radiation or strong electromagnetic emissions
  • Indiscriminate sex contacts and sexually transmitted diseases
  • Smoking, drugs, alcohol
  • Being overweight and underweight

Causes of male infertility

  • Hernia surgery undergone
  • Undescended testicles in the scrotal bag
  • Prostate diseases or genital infection
  • Post-puberty mumps undergone
  • Varicocele (abnormal enlargement of testicle veins)

Factors affecting male fertility:

  • Exposure to toxins, radioactivity, poisonous gases
  • Smoking, drug abuse, alcohol
  • Some medication
  • Exposure of testicles to high temperature (hot baths and saunas)

What are conventional infertility treatment methods?

Conventional infertility treatment methods are related to invasive surgical intervention often combined with strong-acting pharmaceutical medications with drug effects.

The most popular conventional method for infertility treatment is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).

Another method is IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination) – placing sperm in the reproductive tract of a woman by means other than sexual intercourse in order to get the cell egg fertilized.

What are the main drawbacks of conventional fertility treatments?

  • Conventional infertility treatment methods are concentrated ONLY on the body
  • Neglecting the actual causes for infertility could turn out to be a risky factor. In most cases neither the man, nor the woman are prone to think over what are the mental and physiological reasons for their infertility, and act too hastily with IVF procedures!
  • Infertility could be a sign of existing problems between the two partners. Often the reason for infertility originates from “blockages” of the energy body or from a certain mindset
  • lot of mothers get pregnant only after adopting a child. So, the body is not always to blame for infertility!

What is alternative medicine?

Alternative medicine is a variety of forms of treatment other than conventional (official, mainstream) medicine. It is based on several postulates related directly to the principles of holism.

What are the principles of holism?

Some of the basic principles of holism are:

  • Good health is not just the perfect state of a body, but rather a status of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance
  • Every person is a unique individual and it cannot be treated in the same way as other person is treated
  • Treating the root cause of a given problem is more important than treating the apparent symptoms, as the latter could simply conceal the real problem.

Why is alternative medicine often preferred to official medicine?

When comparing alternative medicine to mainstream medicine, it is clear that:

  • Official medicine ignores the body capabilities, relying on “external” treatment factors instead – strong acting drugs and pharmaceuticals, invasive operative methods (surgery) and equipment
  • Alternative medicine is based on the idea of prevention of the illness before it has ever occurred
  • There is a difference in the behavior of a holistic healer and official medicine representative. While the latter treats his patients with haughtiness, referring to them as objects, the holistic healer searches to find common language with the patient, entering deeply in their personality, turning them into partner and adherent during the whole treatment process.
